We have become a society where almost any information you could ask for about a person is available on the internet. There are website that allow you to find out a persons criminal records. You can find out if you have any registered sex offenders living in your neighborhood..You can do an investigation background check on just about anyone for just about any reason all from the comfort of your own home.

I for one, am a bit troubled by this. It seems that people’s privacy can be invaded much more easily then it should be. I am in favor however, of the information available being a matter of public record. I just believe that if a person wants some of this personal information about another person, there should be some record of it. An example of why I feel this is necessary would be in the case of a stalker. A stalker could do an investigation background check on the person they are stalking and find out all kinds of information they could use to terrorize their victim. Although the information might be public, a stalker would be less likely to fill out a form requesting the information because that would leave a record of it. I also believe that unlisted phone numbers are likely unlisted for a reason and you should not just be able to pay a fee and get the number by doing an investigation background check online.

I also feel that having all this public information available for an investigation background check can also be a great thing. A landlord being able to do a tenant investigation before renting an apartment in a family building would be able to find out if the prospective tenant had a criminal record of being a pedophile. He could then protect his current tenants by not renting the apartment to him. A family hiring a nanny could do a investigation background check to make sure the person they are interviewing is suitable for the job. Having the information available online just makes it more likely that an investigation background check will be performed and any troubling candidates weeded out.

Another type of record that is available online are some adoption records. That would be especially convenient for a child searching for his/her birth parents. It would save a lot of travel time and probable dead ends if an investigation background check was done at the beginning and any public information gathered.
